How to Roll a Blunt

How to Roll a Blunt

How to roll a blunt is definitely one of the most frequently-asked questions we get. We especially know how tricky it can be for beginners. Staring down at that empty paper and ground-up flower can seem pretty intimidating. Many first-timers also feel a lot of pressure to roll a blunt perfectly the first time – which we can tell you is unrealistic.

The aim when learning how to roll a blunt for beginners is to accept that it probably won’t be perfect on the first try. And if it is, well hey, ever heard of beginner’s luck?

For those curious, a blunt is a method for smoking weed alongside joints and spliffs. You typically use tobacco paper to wrap it, and it’s filled with quite a hefty amount of marijuana. Effects are long and intense, due to the large quantity of marijuana inside and thick tobacco paper.

To help anyone out there who’s struggling to roll, we’ve created this in-depth guide on how to roll a blunt wrap step by step. You’ll discover how to roll a blunt properly, so you can get its full effects, which includes a long burn time. That means you can easily share it around, or keep a whole one to yourself for a real intense high.

For those in a rush, here’s a quick rundown of how to roll a blunt:

  • Prep the blunt by wetting the wrapper. Don’t forget to dry it off afterwards with some paper towel, but make sure it’s still damp so that it doesn’t crack.
  • Fill the wrapper with your weed of choice. A standard size needs around 2g.
  • Roll it up between your fingers to make the weed compact. Tuck the wrap under itself and wet it again lengthways.
  • Gently seal it using a lighter.

Before starting, you’ll obviously need something to put inside the blunt to smoke it. Luckily, we’ve got the best quality flowers on the Canadian market right here at Give the range a browse and find your favourites, or discover new varieties to try. Now that you’ll know how to roll a blunt properly, we’re sure you’ll be needing plenty of weed to fill up those beautiful blunts.

How to Roll a Blunt – Step by Step Guide

Knowing how to roll a blunt is one thing, but knowing how to roll a blunt tight is another. Here’s the only step by step guide you need to follow to learn how to roll properly.

You’ll Need:

  • Marijuana flower
  • Grinder
  • Rolling paper (tobacco is best)
  • Lighter
  • Rolling tray (optional)

Step 1 – Grind your weed

Get out your favourite weed grinder and start milling the flower. While you could use your fingers to break it up, a grinder will make sure it’s finely cut. This means it’s the perfect consistency for an efficient burn.

Step 2 – Prep the paper

Now it’s time to prep the rolling paper, or cigar paper if you’re using that. Prepping consists of two things – “cracking” the paper if you’re using cigar paper, as well as wetting the paper (we’ll get into that in the next step).

If you’re using a cigar or cigarillo, use a knife and cut down the centre lengthways. Remove any contents and throw them away or save for a spliff.

Step 3 – Dampen, don’t soak

Wetting the paper is another prep step. We’re not talking drenching it, but more-so getting it damp. This helps you more easily move the paper around, preventing the risk of splits or tears.

You can either use your saliva to wet the paper, or use a damp paper towel and gently press the paper into it. If you’re sharing the blunt with others, we recommend using the second method.

Step 4 – Fill with your weed

Now is the fun part. Take the ground weed from the beginning and start filling it into the empty wrapper.

A typical blunt takes around one or two grams, but if you’ve done this before, then you can probably fit in a little more. Don’t overdo it, though. This step is also where you can whip out the rolling tray if you have one. It can help catch any excess weed and gives you a nice flat surface to work off.

Step 5 – Roll, roll, roll

Rolling weed in blunt paper

Push the side of the wrapper that’s closest to you first, before meeting it with the exterior side. Continue rolling in what seems like a push-pull motion, until you start seeing the flower disappear inside the paper.

Once everything is nicely packed, make sure you fold the wrapper under itself. Apply moisture to the inside of the wrapper edge that’s sticking out, so that it closes the entire wrapper. You can lick it or apply a touch of water with your finger. Flatten any wrinkles or bumps with your fingers.

Step 6 – Seal it up

You’ve done it! Now all you have to do is seal it, which is also known as “baking” and involves your lighter. Run the flame along the wrapper lengthways, making sure you hit the seam. Don’t forget to bake all the way around the outside, too, just to be safe.

Remember that this step is about sealing it, not setting it alight. Avoid this by keeping the flame at a fair distance from the paper, so that it doesn’t catch on fire.

Other Tips for Rolling Blunts

  • If you don’t have rolling paper like tobacco paper, you can empty out a cigar and use its wrapping. Make sure you use a sharp blade to cut open a cigar, as you run the risk of ripping the paper if you use fingers..
  • Tight is best, but don’t go overboard. If you roll it too tightly, air won’t be able to move freely through the weed. This means you won’t get a decent pull, plus it can cause the paper to rip.
  • Baking at the end is truly an important step, so don’t count it out. It’s like putting on the lid of a jar to keep the contents fresh and sealed. The only difference here is that if you don’t bake it, the blunt will most likely fall apart.

Roll a Blunt with Confidence

Now you know how to roll a blunt, you can now roll a nice and tight one with full confidence in your technique. A properly rolled blunt gives you the best chance at getting the full effects of whatever strain you’ve chosen to put inside. A perfectly rolled blunt will also burn for a whole lot longer, and give a more potent hit than a badly rolled one.

If you’ve read through this step-by-step guide and have happened to decide that it’s all a bit much, then you’ve always got the option of a pre-rolled blunt. Just make sure you’re getting high-quality pre-rolls that are packed nice and tight, which you’ll find right here at
